Not only does felting add a fun new texture to your crochet projects, but it also toughens the fabric, making it perfect for items that require shaping, such as hats, slippers or handbags. All you need is a pillowcase, some old towels and a washing machine. For best results, use a yarn containing animal fibers. This allows the yarn to shrink when exposed to hot water in the washing machine. Simply crochet with a hook that is one size larger than your pattern calls for to allow for shrinking, tie the project up in a pillowcase, then add it to the washing machine with some old towels.
